  • Foliage: Deep purple in spring and summer, bronze in fall
  • Growth Rate: Slow to moderate

Planting Guide:

  1. Select the Right Spot: Choose a spacious location with plenty of sunlight and room for the tree to grow to its full size.
  2. Prepare the Soil: Ensure the soil is well-drained and rich in organic matter. Amend heavy clay or sandy soil with compost to improve texture and fertility.
  3. Planting Depth: Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and equal in depth. Place the root ball so the top is level with the ground.
  4. Watering: Water deeply after planting. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the first few years to establish deep roots.
  5. Mulching: Spread a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the base to retain moisture, regulate temperature, and suppress weeds. Avoid letting the mulch touch the trunk.
  6. Pruning: Prune lightly in late winter to remove dead or damaged branches and maintain shape, if needed.

The Fagus sylvatica 'Atropurpurea' is a magnificent choice for creating a stately focal point in large gardens or as part of a mixed woodland setting. Its stunning foliage, elegant form, and low-maintenance requirements make it a timeless addition to any landscape.
